How Loving Our Pets Makes Us Stronger

As compassionate parents, we understand and teach our children that even the smallest act of kindness will improve animals’ wellbeing. We must be conscious of showing our love for the planet and expressing empathy towards all living things around us, even when uncomfortable.

Helping animals improves our humanity, boosts our happiness, and even helps us heal from trauma and depression. There is a reason why our society supports and encourages Emotional Support Animals!

Here are three ways in which being kind to animals makes us better.

Every day, I am reminded that a companion animal’s love is unconditional, a truly selfless love. When we are sad, they comfort us. When we are away at work or travelling, they patiently wait for our return. They never hold grudges, no matter how badly we have behaved towards them! By treating our companions well and donating to help stray animals on the street, we become better people.

Before becoming vegan, I didn’t realize that there could be so much more to my life. I had a wonderful loving family, a comfortable home and food on my table-a successful life. I felt all this gave me purpose but what I was missing was a Cause. Sharing this Cause with my children is the greatest gift I can give them.

When we help animals, we step away from our language, culture, gender, and religion. Our background becomes irrelevant because these things mean nothing to the animal-they are human constructs that separate and not unite us. Think to the last time you volunteered — did it matter who the person was standing alongside you? It only mattered that they were there helping!

Loving and caring for animals helps you connect with others. Haven’t we all been in a scenario when a group of people are awkwardly trying to connect, and then someone shows up with their companion animal-suddenly the dynamic changes-smiles blossom, and a conversation starts. An animal can do that!

With our children, teaching them to respect and honour animals is a valuable lesson that must be taught and reinforced as they will be bombarded with messages and imaging that will counter what you teach them. Gifting a child a book that they can hold dear and learn from, is what I strive to provide with Compassionate Press.
